Almost... but not quite! 40 Weeks!

Dear Caleb,

Well, we thought we might meet you today, but instead we just spent a few hours in the hospital and then came home.  When Daddy and I went to go see Dr. Ronen for our 40 week appointment my blood pressure was a little high and he sent us to the hospital to monitor it.  We thought he might decide to induce since we were there, but instead he sent us home.  It was fun to see the small contractions start and stop on the monitor - it means that it's getting closer to the day when we will get to meet you!

Safety first!

Dear Caleb,

December will be such a fun time to be born!  There will be beautiful Christmas lights and nice cool weather (which will be a good excuse for is to have lots of hot chocolate breaks together)!  But, with the cold weather comes sniffles and coughs.  Grandma and Grandpa with your aunts and uncle love you so much they went and got a flu shot and whooping cough shot so that they can snuggle with you and keep you safe!

Your Godparents!

Dear Caleb,

We've made it to Thanksgiving!  Dr. Ronen is out of town so I decided not to walk in the Turkey Dash with grandma and your aunts, but I did go to support them!  We all talked about how next year you can go too and we'll bring you in the stroller!

We also finally got to officially ask Aunt Rachel and Uncle Thomas to be your godparents!  They have such a beautiful love for Christ and I know that you'll learn a lot from them.

We can't wait for you to meet your Godparents!  We know we have so much to be thankful for and will be celebrating Christmas with you soon!

Mommy

Weekly Doctor Visits

Dear Caleb,

You're now 37 weeks old and I've been going to the doctor every week now! You're definitely active and often get hiccups (especially when I'm ready to go to sleep).  Today at Dr. Ronen's office your heartbeat and movement was monitored for about 30 minutes.  When you move your heart rate goes up, and boy, do you like to move! I thought you might kick off the monitors!  You were showing off how you like to move your feet and bottom and I could watch the needles on the monitor move up and down.

It was such a sweet treat to get to listen to your heartbeat for so long.

Picture Perfect

Dear Caleb,

Today Daddy and I took some maternity pictures!  It's so exciting to think that there's three of us in each picture!  We can't wait until December to take pictures of your cute face, but until then, we wanted to document what we looked like while we were patiently waiting!

Dear Caleb -

You're blessed with some pretty awesome biological aunts and uncles, but you also have a ton of amazing honorary aunts and uncles!  Daddy and I are so blessed to have such a great network of friends who wanted to do something special for your arrival!  Here are some pictures from all of the fun!

WHOOP!

Dear Caleb -

Let me preface this by saying we'll be thrilled for whichever college you decide to go to... BUT, we can't help ourselves in hoping that you end up at Texas A&M University!

The wonderful ladies I work with know how much Daddy and I love Texas A&M so they decided to throw us an Aggie shower!  It was so much fun and everything was so adorable!  You'll be definitely wearing lots of maroon after your arrival.  Here are a few pictures of the adorable presents you got!

Newborn Care

Dear Caleb -

Tonight Daddy and I took a Newborn Care Class!  Although I have a little bit more experience with babies than Daddy does, we wanted to make sure we could take good care of you to help you be healthy and strong!   We had babies to practice swaddling, bathing, and diaper changing.  There was a lot of information, but now we are even more excited for you to get here!  We love you so much already and we can't wait until you are in our arms!

Another Ultrasound

Dear Caleb -

We get to see you again!  I was so excited for my doctor's appointment today.  The technician was able to make sure you were growing, and boy, are you growing!  You're already four pounds and two ounces!  Everything went great and you had a special guest at this ultrasound - Grandma!  Daddy wasn't able to make this appointment so Grandma decided to come and see you!  Things sure have changed since she had babies!  You were all curled up and your knee was pretty much at your nose, but you waved to us and went back to sleep.

Only a couple of more months before you are in our arms!

The Verm Legacy

Dear Caleb -

Today we had a very special shower from your great aunts!  They were so creative and so generous!  One of your most treasured gifts came from all of your great aunts making you a baby quilt!  They all helped out and were able to make you a beautiful quilt, perfect for a country boy with the brand of the Verm family in the middle.  It was so thoughtful for them to make you such a special gift!

You are truly blessed to have such a wonderful family! Everyone can't wait to meet you!

An Aggie Already

Dear Caleb,

This morning while I was getting ready for work, Daddy put the iPhone speakers next to my stomach for you to listen to the Aggie War Hymn.  It probably sounded a bit jumbled by the time it reached your tiny ears, but I'm sure you'll have an opportunity to listen to it in person!  Although we would love for you to attend Texas A&M University, we know that you'll make your own path in life!  There are a lot of great colleges in the world and we know you'll find the one that's right for you.  But, in the mean time, we'll teach you how to yell GIG'EM AGGIES! WHOOP to the Class of 2036!

You're in 3D!

Dear Caleb -

Technology is amazing!  I'm sure by the time you're in kindergarten you'll have experienced more technology then I did by the time I was ten!  Today we got to see your beautiful face with the extra special help of 3D and 4D technology!  It was so amazing to see what you will look like!  I can now daydream of your cute nose (that comes from Grandma Verm's side of the family, I think) and wonder what color hair you might have!  Daddy and I were so excited to get to see you again and you've grown so much since you were 20 weeks old.  At 31 weeks you now look so grown up!  I'm in my last trimester and although you are growing and running out of room quick, I know that your kicking and moving is agreement that you're ready to meet us soon.  I can't wait until you are in my arms!

You'll be the most stylish baby...

Dear Caleb -

Gigi's friends and family gave you another wonderful shower!  You are going to be the most stylish baby at the day care with all of the adorable onesies and outfits you received!  You are so blessed!  We also received your car seat so we will be able to take you home safely from the hospital.  We can't wait to meet you and there sure are a lot of ladies here who are excited to meet you too!

Your first shower!

Dear Caleb,

You are incredibly blessed and will be welcomed into such a loving and generous family!

Aunt Rachel was so excited to welcome you into the world that she helped organize a baby shower to help you start to build your very own library of books!  Grandma and Gigi even brought over books that Daddy and I read when we were little.  You will have so many books to choose from that I'm sure you'll develop a love for reading at an early age.  All of the librarians (the hostesses for the shower) were sure to provide yummy food as well as ask guest to help us stock up on diapers.  The hostesses gave us a rocking chair to rock you to sleep when you're little and to read to you as you grow.  Aunt Rachel got you your first Bible and Aunt Tina made you a baby quilt!  Gigi gave me the blanket she made for Daddy when he was born.  Grandma also brought all of your baby bedding for your nursery that she made herself!  As you can see, you're not here yet, but everyone is so excited to meet you and everyone already loves you so much!

Here are a few pictures from the exciting event!

Memorial Herman at Memorial City - Where We Get to Meet You!

Dear Caleb,

What an exciting day!  Daddy and I decided to tour the hospital where we will finally get to meet you.  We are SO blessed to be able to deliver you in such a safe, beautiful building!  The staff all seem so very nice and I'm sure you'll like them too.  Crossing a visit to the hospital off our list reminds us that you'll be in our arms very soon!

Your Name!

Dear CALEB,

We are so excited to finally have a name for you!  We've been talking about baby names before you even existed, but we never thought it would be so hard to pick one for you.  We finally were able to pick a name we think you'll be proud of, we hope you like it!  You will be called Caleb Andrew Ashorn!

Andrew is your Daddy's middle name too, and together you'll both have the same initials.  I love the name Andrew and your patron saint, Saint Andrew, has a feast day just a couple of days before your due date.  Maybe you'll surprise us a little bit early on November 30 to celebrate!

The name Caleb caught us by surprise.  We didn't know we'd choose it from the beginning, but it began to grow on us and eventually we knew it was the name for you!  We told Grandma and Grandpa as well as Gigi and Pops tonight and they are equally excited to be able to call you by name.

We love you and can't wait to see you in December (or maybe even November)!

Mommy

Camo or Pearls - Your Reveal Party!

Dear Baby,

It sure is hard keeping a secret!

We wanted to share your news that you're a boy with all of our friends and family!  We knew if you would be a little girl you could wear pearls like me, or if you were a boy you would be dressed in camo like Dad!   Although, as Uncle Thomas said, "boy or girl, the baby will still be wearing camo!"

Look at all of the fun everyone had waiting for your news!  Everyone took their guess but not everyone was right!  We can't wait to start getting ready for your arrival.

It's a BOY!!!!

Mommy
